every journey begins with a single step

some say

when did i take the step that led me

here today?

Was it the step that took me onto

my high school floor?

The one into the classroom,

where i was taught history

isn't mere lore?

Or perhaps it was the step to greet

new friends, who changed me

even more?

perchance it was the step to reconnect

to an old friend, indeed my heart

he tore.

All of these steps furthered my journey

into my deeper self.

these pilgrimage i've taken

now lay reconsidered here

on my mind's shelf.
